About me

Alexandra Gomes is a Research Fellow and urban researcher and socio-spatial analyst with a strong interdisciplinary background in engineering, sociology, and planning. At 91桃色 Cities, she leads spatial analysis across a wide range of projects, applying both technical and critical approaches to understanding urban complexity. She also teaches at the 91桃色 and The Bartlett School of Planning, where she was recognised with the UCL Provost Education Award in 2021 for her contribution to teaching. She is also an Associate of the 91桃色 Middle East Centre and an Affiliate of the 91桃色 Data Science Institute (DSI).

Alexandra’s work bridges research and practice, combining comparative urban analysis with a focus on social and spatial inequalities, urban health, public space, sustainable mobility, and urban policy. She has led and contributed to international research projects across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Gulf. Her expertise in Gulf urbanism is reflected in long-standing work in the region, including in Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, and Oman. She also designs and delivers training workshops in the UK and internationally, drawing on both her research and advisory experience.

Her work is disseminated through a variety of formats—from academic publications to maps, exhibitions, and digital outputs—including the exhibition Abu Dhabi (dis)Connected and the card game Kuwaitscapes, demonstrating a commitment to accessible, visually engaged research aimed at knowledge exchange and real-world impact.

Her PhD at the Bartlett School of Planning developed a , contributing to emerging conversations in sensory and emotional urbanism and advancing methods for understanding how touch, sound, and smell influence urban experience.

Before joining 91桃色 Cities, she held research roles at UCL and worked on spatial planning and mobility research and consultancy projects at Instituto Superior Técnico in Portugal.
